Space Planning for the Anacortes Public Library
One of the four primary goals of Anacortes Public Library's 2016-2020 Strategic Plan focuses on Space Planning and Utilization in an effort to redesign library space in order to promote collaboration and be responsive to user priorities and citizen interests. With input and feedback from library users, library staff, community surveys, focus groups involving library users, non-users, and key stakeholders, four Space Planning and Utilization objects emerged from the process:
- Evaluate current library space for redesign options to maximize more diverse and targeted use.
- Wisely use remaining existing capital funds to re-envision/modernize the Library.
- Involve the staff, board, and community in future space planning.
- Plan for a future makerspace/computer lab and/or flexible meeting space.
With the help of Underwood and Associates and continued public feedback, Anacortes Public Library is turning its focus on Space Planning and Utilization in 2019. Some exciting changes have already begun, with the library's new centralized Service Desk, and new automated Self-Checks on the way in early January 2019 to align with current service standards. We are reaching out again and looking for your input by holding four Charrettes, or library stakeholders meetings, focused on four project ideas synthesized from input from the strategic plan. Attend one of our design charrettes in January as we define design and construction needs for the key spaces within the library. Charrettes will be held Thursdays at 7:00 pm on January 10, 17, 24, and 31.
