The Anacortes Public Library is excited to announce that we will are open for in-person visits for express browsing and computer use by appointment. As we follow quickly changing state guidelines and get staffing in place, we'll start with available half hour appointments Thursday-Saturday from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, keeping our popular curbside delivery going Tuesdays from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. All programs will remain virtual.

Frequently Asked Questions

Appointment Questions

> Can I make an appointment for my household/family or just myself?
You can make an appointment for your family to visit at the same 30 minute slot. Just tell us when you call for the appointment how many people and what areas you’ll be visiting so we can plan accordingly to keep social distancing in place.

> Can I use a public computer?
A limited number of public computers are available by appointment. Please tell us when you call if you would like to use one so we can reserve it for you.

> How long can I be in the library?
Appointments are for 30 minutes. After that time you will need to leave and make an appointment for another time.

What can I do during my appointment? 

> Do I have to wear a mask?
Absolutely no one will be allowed in the building without a face mask that covers their mouth and nose fully unless they are under 5 years old. We ask that all children between 2-4 also wear masks whenever possible. If you choose to not wear a mask, you can still use our curbside pickup.

> Does my child have to wear a mask?
Likely, yes. See above.

> If I’ve been vaccinated do I have to wear a mask?
Yes. No exceptions to the mask policy will be allowed in the library for any reason.

> Can I study/work in the library?
No seating or mingling will be available during this current phase, so appointments are only for Express browsing (selecting your own books) and computer usage at this time. If you have your own device you may use our standing laptop bar for your 30 minute appointment.

> Can I eat or drink?
Your mask needs to be worn at all times, so if you need to have a snack or get a drink please leave the library and return another time. Please finish all beverages before entering the library.

> Will restrooms be available?
Public restrooms will be available for one household at a time in the lobby. All other restrooms will be closed. Restrooms are cleaned once each evening.

Children’s Library Questions

> Does my child have to wear a mask?  
All children over 5 are required to wear a mask. Children under 5 but older than 2 are encouraged to wear a mask whenever possible.

> Will the toys and play area be available? 
All toys and seating are unavailable at this time.

> Are the children’s activities and computers available? 
No, not yet.

> Will there be any in-person storytimes or programs? 
No, not at this time. Virtual programs will continue.

> Can I visit the children’s library and other areas of the library during my visit? 
Yes, but please tell us when you make the appointment if you are intending to visit the Children’s Library, as capacity limits imposed by the state are more limited for that specific space.

General Questions

> How long will curbside delivery be available? 
We will continue curbside delivery for as long as we are unable to open to full capacity.

> Are volunteers allowed in the building yet?  
Not yet. For the safety of our staff and volunteers we are limiting our building to staff and visitors by appointment only at this time.

> Can I come in for a Tech Tuesday Appointment?
All in-person contact assistance is unavailable at this time, including programs for Tech assistance, and one-on-one close contact help with our public computers.

> Can I reserve the meeting room or a study room?
No, not at this time.

> Do you take walk-ins?
No, you must have an appointment to visit the library. If you walk up and a future appointment is still available that day, you may be able to schedule a later same-day appointment, but we recommend calling first. You will not be able to walk in without an appointment for any reason.

> Will the Friends bookstore be open? 
Not yet, but there are some books available to purchase in the lobby (there is an honor system cash box).

> Can I donate books to the library?    
No, we are not currently accepting donations. When the Friends shop are able to sell some of their current inventory we will start opening up to donations. 

> Are passport appointments available?
Not at this time. Passport forms are available at the library alongside our tax forms for self-service.
