About the Application Process

Thank you for your interest in employment with the City of Anacortes. Job vacancies are announced and applications are accepted when vacancies occur. The website is updated as soon as there is an external job opening. Each job announcement provides a brief summary of the position, essential duties, qualifications and other requirements. Please review the information carefully to assure you meet position qualifications before applying. If you have additional questions you may call Human Resources at (360) 299-1970.

To find a list of position offerings through the City of Anacortes, please refer to our online jobs posting center.

The application form included in each posting is required in order to be reviewed. Applications will be accepted for current job openings only. Submit materials requested in the job posting announcement by the deadline. These commonly include a resume and cover letter, in addition to the application. Please note, we do not send confirmations to applicants. If you are unsure your application was properly submitted, contact Human Resources directly.

If applying for more than one City of Anacortes position, a separate application must be submitted for each position. You may leave the position, date, and signature lines blank on the application form and make a copy to complete for each position. An original signature is required on each application submitted.

After the job posting deadline, a job announcement will be taken off the website. If you have been selected for an interview or for testing, you will be contacted either by phone or email. Applicants who were not selected for an interview or testing will be contacted by email or phone as soon as possible.

Typical hiring processes include a series of oral interviews. These interviews occur remotely or in-person depending on the circumstance. Applicants for non-Civil Service positions are expected to appear for interviews and answer questions from a panel. Civil Service positions have hiring processes and steps clearly outlined in the job announcement associated with the posting. Applicants will be informed of their status in the hiring process as soon as feasible.

The City of Anacortes is committed to a diverse staff and fostering a welcoming workplace. To that end, the City celebrates diversity in experience, identity, and perspectives.
