The Anacortes Wastewater Treatment Plant was presented with an “Outstanding Wastewater Treatment Plant” award by the Department of Ecology in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The award is given to those who achieve 100 percent compliance with the regulations imposed by the discharge permit. The permit places limits on the quantity and concentrations of contaminants that the treatment plants discharge.
DOE Outstanding Performance Award
The Department of Ecology issued the Outstanding Performance award to wastewater treatment plants for their outstanding performance. The City of Anacortes Wastewater Treatment Plant has received this award in 1996, 1997, 2001, 2002, 2008, 2009, 2011 through 2019, 2021, 2022.
SCOG Recognition Certificate
The Skagit County of Governments recognized the wastewater treatment plant for the largest reduction in energy by a single facility, a savings of $37,778 in 2011.
NW Clean Air Agency Platinum Award
Northwest Clean Air Agency recognized the wastewater treatment plant for efforts in promoting cleaner air for the communities. The plant went from burning an average of 3200 gallons of diesel a month to 345 gallons a month. Through this recognition and articles that have been published; the Anacortes wastewater treatment plant has received calls from other treatment plants for information on how our system could potentially improve their systems.
Award of Excellence
The wastewater treatment staff was presented the Award of Excellence in recognition for their efforts made in reducing incinerator diesel fuel consumption. Diesel usage was reduced through the efforts of the plant manager, admin and operators of the plant (listed on the certificate) trying various methods. In 2007 38,474 gallons were used to operate the incinerator; in 2010 diesel usage was reduced to 8,301 gallons. The staff continues to find ways to reduce the cost of running the plant.
Rebecca Fox was presented the Lab Analyst Excellence Award in recognition for outstanding performance, professionalism and contributions to the water quality analysis profession. This award was presented by the Pacific NW Clean Water Association in 2014.
