Accessible Community Advisory Committee (ACAC)
A Committee to Aid People with Disabilities (PWD)
To improve quality of life for Anacortes residents and visitors with disabilities, Mayor Gere and Anacortes City Council approved Resolution 2014 on May 7, 2018, establishing an Accessible Community Advisory Committee, supporting the Governor’s Committee on Disability and Employment initiative to benefit people living with disabilities.
ACAC Purpose
The Accessible Communities Advisory Committee (ACAC) looks to engage the community of people with disabilities, local government, businesses and organizations in effective, solutions-oriented partnerships to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities through elimination or mitigation of barriers they face.
ACAC Responsibilities
The ACAC will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
• Advise policy makers on the needs of persons with disabilities in emergency plans.
• Advise the county and other local governments within the county on access to programs, services, and activities, new construction or renovation projects, sidewalks, other pedestrian routes of travel, and disability parking enforcement.
• Develop local initiatives and activities to promote greater awareness of disability issues, and acceptance, involvement and access for persons with disabilities within the community.
