Elks lay cornerstone for lodge (1915)

The cornerstone of the Elks' Lodge at 6th and Q was laid on this date in 1919, on a lot purchased in 1912 for $3,000. The building formally opened with a grand celebration on June 10. The Anacortes American gushed: “New Edifice of Anacortes Elks is Temple of Beauty.” Today we know the building as our City Hall.
