[ARCHIVED] Anacortes Lakes

Local lakes in the Community Forest Lands are important summer destination for city residents.  Unfortunately, Little Cranberry Lake recorded high levels of fecal coliform bacteria and had to be closed temporarily in July.  Testing during July and early August show the bacteria counts are now back to normal levels.

Small blooms of toxic blue green algae in Heart Lake and Little Cranberry Lake appeared and were tested last month.  The toxicity levels from these tests are very low.  We check our lakes regularly during the summer months and work closely with the Skagit County Health Department on public notices.

If you see an algae bloom in the lakes, it is best for both you and your pets to stay out of the water.
