The City of Anacortes is hosting a Public Works Open House on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm. at our award winning Wastewater Treatment Plant at 500 T Avenue. This event will provide an opportunity for the community to see
firsthand the systems and equipment which maintain the outstanding quality of
life that we enjoy in Anacortes! Students and community members will be able to ride in our street
sweeper and garbage trucks, and operate surveying equipment. The City’s camera truck crew will demonstrate
its abilities to view underground pipes. Students will be able to operate our equipment used for locating buried
pipes and utilities.
Our state of the art
Wastewater Treatment Plant will be open for tours that will illustrate the
importance of biology, chemistry, and physics in the processing of “you know
what” into water that is nearly drinkable and ready for discharge into the Guemes
There will be
exhibits on water conservation, recycling, and composting. We will also conduct jar testing. “What is jar testing?” It is a process used by the Water Treatment
Plant, called coagulation/flocculation, which is done prior to filtering the
water that comes out of our faucets. Want
to know more? Come to our Open House on May 31st and find out.
