Anacortes History

  1. Fidalgo Trestle Path goes up in flames (2009)

    October 15, 2019, All Day

200 feet of trail burned over Fidalgo Bay, but the entire community would feel it's heat. The historic bridge connecting Fidalgo to Marches Point and ending the Tommy Thompson Trail had been lovingly taken care of by the Anacortes community since it was built in 1889, it had just been restored three years ago when it went up in smoke due to arson fire. History is important to Anacortes though, and the community wasn't going to let the bridge go down that easily. Through a large scale campaign of donation and volunteerism, the bridge was rebuilt by May of the next year.
